During the dawning decades of the twentieth century, it was commonly presumed that black people had little history besides the subjugation of slavery. Today, it is clear that blacks have significantly impacted the development of the social, political, and economic structures of the United States and the world. Credit for the evolving awareness of the true place of blacks in history can, in large part, be bestowed on one man, Carter G. Woodson. And, his brainchild the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. is continuing Woodson’s tradition of disseminating information about black life, history and culture to the global community.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH®) is to promote, research, preserve, interpret and disseminate information about Black life, history and culture to the global community.

Why support?
It really does take a village to raise kids, and the number of single-parent homes in the U.S. is continually growing.
There are all sorts of single parent families, headed by fathers, mothers and grandparents raising their grandchildren. Some of these families form when one parent dies, a single parent adopting children, unwanted pregnancies through rape, parents divorcing or separating or abandoning their families.
Society sometimes frames single parents as a social problem and are viewed as being poor-decision makers, lazy, welfare-grabbing baby-makers and blamed for their being in poverty, but sometimes this is not true. Most of these families form not by choice, but because of different circumstances. There are some single parents who have been successful as sole caregivers, but there are many who face so many challenges and deserve to be supported, encouraged, and advocated for, to live better successful lives.
These families are part of our communities, there is a need to support them to make a difference in our communities which would lead to a reduction in poverty, less violence and to promote a society with children who grow up to be responsible and be productive in our communities.

OUR MISSION
Convoy of Hope is a faith-based, nonprofit organization with a driving passion to feed the world through children’s feeding initiatives, community outreaches, and disaster response.
HOW WE DO IT
As a faith-based, international, humanitarian-relief organization strategically based in Springfield, Missouri — the crossroads of America — our goal is to bring help and hope to those who are impoverished, hungry and hurting.
We do this by:
ENGAGING
Each year — in dozens of communities throughout the nation — guests of honor receive free groceries, health and dental screenings, haircuts, family portraits, hot meals, job-placement assistance, and much more at our signature events.
CARING
We partner, resource, and empower rural churches through training, mentoring, and coaching so they can enhance their presence in their communities. The strategy works best when church leaders partner with community leaders and stakeholders.
NOURISHING
More than 300,000 children in 18 nations are fed nutritious meals by us. The food opens doors for education, clean water, a sense of hope and much more. Currently, we are feeding children in, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Kenya, Lebanon, Nepal, Nicaragua, the Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Togo, and Uganda.
GROWING
We equip vulnerable farmers and families with the skills, tools, and seeds to produce life-sustaining crops through the agricultural work we conduct throughout the world. Each year, tens of thousands of meals are harvested for our children’s feeding work and income is generated for farmers.
RESPONDING
Consistently among the first to respond to disasters throughout the world. We are highly regarded for our scalable distribution model, Disaster Response teams, six international warehouses, and Mobile Command Center.
PARTNERING
We empower like-minded organizations who are doing good work among the poor and suffering in their communities. This is accomplished by providing such friends with food, water, supplies, and much more.

Mission
Harnessing the nation’s generosity to support those affected by a national emergency at their time of greatest need.
Vision
An independent body that is trusted to work collaboratively to raise and distribute funds fairly and efficiently at a time of a domestic disaster.
The intensity of emergencies in 2017 – from the terrorist attacks in Manchester and London to Grenfell – led the Charity Commission to convene a number of people in the charitable sector to see if there was a better way of responding to national emergencies. This has led to the creation of the National Emergencies Trust, which will collaborate with charities and other bodies to raise and distribute money and support victims at the time of a domestic disaster.
It is a charity, not the state; it will be additional to what the state does. It is independent of government, and will not seek to replicate the work of central or local government.

Here at the BHWT we save the lives of tens of thousands of ex-commercial hens every year, raise awareness of hen welfare, educate the public and encourage people to view hens as pets, rather than food producing animals. But we can only help hens through the generosity of supporters like you, who give both their time and money to help change the future of farming.
The British Hen Welfare Trust was set up in 2005 to educate the public about laying hen welfare.
Best known for our rehoming initiative, we have found pet homes for over 755,000 commercial laying hens destined for slaughter. Jane Howorth, the Trust’s Founder, was moved by a Panorama documentary in 1979 which illustrated the stark conditions inside battery cages. Her remit from the outset was to be pragmatic in educating consumers whilst being respectful supporting the British egg industry.
As well as finding homes for hens the charity began a positive campaign to improve hen welfare through consumer shopping baskets, encouraging people to check food labels. In 2011 the charity played a huge part in Hellmann’s switching to free-range eggs in its mayonnaise, improving the quality of life for tens of thousands of hens. Consumer influence at its most powerful.

Cool Earth
UK Regulator (CCEW) — Charity Number: 1117978
Keeping carbon where it belongs
Cool Earth is a UK-based charity that protects endangered rainforest in order to combat global warming, protect ecosystems and provide sustainable jobs for local people.
The resource
Rainforests are one of the world's most important resources, worth much more left standing than they are cut down for timber or burnt to clear land for farming. They are home to more than half of all living plant and animal species and produce more than a fifth of both the world's oxygen and its fresh water.
The problem
Every minute one hundred acres of rainforest are cleared so that the land can be used for farming, logging and grazing. That's more than 50 million acres a year, about the size of the British mainland. Every acre that is burnt results in 260 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. In the next 24 hours, deforestation will release as much climate-warming CO2 as 8 million people flying from London to New York.
The solution
Cool Earth raises money to secure sections of the rainforest that would otherwise be sold to loggers and ranchers. Current projects are in Peru, Brazil and Ecuador, with new sites in development.
The land is placed in a local trust with local communities employed around the clock to protect it. More than 50% of donations are spent ensuring communities benefit from keeping the forest standing. This includes investment in the production and processing of sustainable forest crops such as rubber, Brazil nuts, cocoa and coffee. Money is also spent on building or improving schools and medical facilities.

The charity is administered entirely voluntarily which means that more of your money is available to fund projects on the ground in Goa.
We believe that children have the right to a healthy, educated childhood, to be safe from abuse, to attend school, to be treated with respect and to be heard. They have the right to act like children and to play. We know that education is the main route out of poverty. Not only does it give children the knowledge and skills to improve their own lives but when they have families of their own their children will have a better chance of surviving and thriving. Our projects therefore focus on education and aim to ensure that marginalised children access and remain in mainstream school and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. We also recognise that nutrition, good health, the provision of uniforms and school bags and the chance to play and enjoy the world about us all help children’s chances of success and we target our funding at these areas too.

Tim Edwards (Managing Trustee The Bhopal Medical Appeal) UnIon Carbide's Toxic Gas Release "The Union Carbide pesticide factory released a huge cloud of toxic gases that drifted straight into the densely populated heart of the old city of Bhopal...when it reached the communities it caused utter devastation with bodies flailing in its wake."
On the night of December 2nd, 1984, a Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, India, began leaking 27 tons of the deadly gas methyl isocyanate. None of the six safety systems designed to contain such a leak were operational, allowing the gas to spread throughout the city of Bhopal. Half a million people were exposed to the gas and over 25,000 have died to date as a result of their exposure.
Over 150,000 chronically ill survivors are in desperate need of medical attention. While official figures report well over 5000 deaths attributable to exposure, a government agency – the Centre for Rehabilitation Studies in Bhopal – reports 2165 deaths attributable to toxic exposure in the year 1997 alone. Unofficial and more correct estimates place the current death toll at over 25,000.

Little income. little hope.
Up to 69% of citizens in Sub-Saharan African nations like Togo and Guinea live on less than $2 per day. Healthcare is simply not an option, either because it does not exist or it is completely unaffordable. In low-income countries, it is estimated that 85% of children need treatment for a surgical condition before the age of 15. Lack of treatment or a sometimes simple surgical solution often leads to complications, lifelong disability or death.
An enormous challenge.
Globally, five billion people have no access to safe surgery. In low-income and lower-middle-income countries, nine out of ten people have no access to basic surgical care. But don’t let the statistics numb you. Because behind every number there is a name, a face, and a story. WHAT WE DO
We provide protection and opportunity for children with nowhere else to go and nobody to turn to. Every year thousands of children across the UK, India and East Africa run away or are forced to leave homes that have become unbearable through poverty, abuse, violence and neglect.

We race to get to children before the streets get to them.

Our Mission
To embrace children of incarcerated parents & empower them to break the cycle of intergenerational involvement in the criminal justice system.
Our Population
In the United States, 2.7 million children have a parent who is incarcerated. In New York alone, there are 105,000 children living under these circumstances.
Children impacted by parental incarceration often face uncertainty and trauma from changing living arrangements, including moving from one caregiver to the next or being separated from their siblings. Beyond these stressors, children with an incarcerated loved one may struggle with the stigma and shame of having a parent in prison.
If a child loses a parent due to death or is separated as a result of divorce or military deployment, they receive sympathy and understanding from society. When a parent is away serving time in prison, the child most likely does not receive the same level of compassion and empathy from their community.

The Ellen MacArthur Foundation was launched in 2010 to accelerate the transition to a circular economy. Since its creation the charity has emerged as a global thought leader, establishing the circular economy on the agenda of decision makers across business, government, and academia.
In a circular economy, economic activity builds and rebuilds overall system health. The concept recognises the importance of the economy needing to work effectively at all scales – for large and small businesses, for organisations and individuals, globally and locally.
Transitioning to a circular economy does not only amount to adjustments aimed at reducing the negative impacts of the linear economy. Rather, it represents a systemic shift that builds long-term resilience, generates business and economic opportunities, and provides environmental and societal benefits.

What we do
We help protect people from malaria.
We fund anti-malaria nets, specifically long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), and work with distribution partners to ensure they are used.
We track and report on net use and malaria case data.
Why nets?
The most effective means of preventing malaria is sleeping under a mosquito net, specifically a long-lasting insecticide treated net (LLIN).
Malaria is transmitted by certain mosquitoes when they bite. These mosquitoes bite people to get a blood meal. The malaria parasite then passes from the infected mosquito to the person being bitten. They typically bite between 10 o'clock at night and two in the morning - and that's one of the most important things we have on our side: if we can protect people in affected areas when they sleep at night we have a very good chance of preventing them contracting malaria. more
Each net costs about $2.00, lasts for 3-4 years, and protects, on average, two people.
The statistics are well known given the scale of the problem. Every 100-1,000 nets we put over heads and beds, one child doesn't die.
Every single net matters.

‘While realising the dangers of policing, no officer expects to lose their life on duty. When such a tragedy occurs, the surviving family endures emotions which can include denial, bewilderment, anger and depression. They also encounter many practical difficulties in respect of such sudden loss. Eventual isolation from the police environment often exacerbates such situations, and leaves survivors thinking that no one understands.
The police service does not have the resources to maintain support beyond the immediate aftermath of the death. That is where 'Care Of Police Survivors' (COPS) comes in. It connects bereaved families with others who truly understand, by virtue of having been in the same situation themselves. This peer based support is the mainstay of COPS activity, but is enhanced by projects aimed at providing survivors with the support needed to rebuild their lives.’

S.A.T Animal Rescue (Sociedad Protectora para Animales de Torrevieja’ (or S.A.T))
ES Regulator (MOI) — Charity Number: 3463 - CIF:G03748415
S.A.T was founded in 1992 by a group of people of all nationalities who saw the need for a sanctuary for the abandoned dogs that roamed the streets of Torrevieja. Today, with its kennels at Dolores which can home up to 70 dogs, it is still a multi-national organisation and a registered charity with the Valencian Community. Our aim is to prevent unnecessary suffering and rehome the many abandoned dogs within the Costa Blanca area. No longer do we only cover Torrevieja, we have cries for help from as far as Murcia and as far inland as Pinoso and Sax. Luckily for us, there are now more places like ours that take in abandoned animals and we can deal with the immediate problems in the Vega Baja area more readily.

Safeguarding Children
NZ Regulator (CS) — Charity Number: CC49059
In 2011, three Nelson-based community nurses with child protection expertise and a detective from the local child protection team recognised there was a desperate unmet need for child protection training and guidance in New Zealand.
A lack of access to training and guidance is a significant barrier to helping or protecting children in need or at risk, and a contributing factor to New Zealand’s poor record on child abuse and neglect.
Our team also recognised that community engagement was crucial to protecting children and young people from abuse and neglect. Safeguarding Children Initiative was born.
We established a registered charity, gathered a skilled and dedicated Board and were successful in finding funding via philanthropic trusts. Our reputation grew and the demand for our training, guidance, and consultancy increased to the point where we were able to appoint permanent team members rather than trying to run everything in our spare time.
We are now a well-established, sustainable charity sustained through a combination of fee-paying services and grants/donations, underpinned by strong governance.
The Safeguarding Children Initiative is New Zealand’s only provider of child protection eLearning. For more details follow this link: https://safeguardingchildren.org.nz/services/elearning/

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS)
UK Regulator (CCEW) — Charity Number: 1145877
Plastic pollution is the ‘new sewage’. Tackling it is our number one priority.
Plastic pollution has sadly become synonymous with all of our favourite coastal activities - from surfing to swimming, beach holidays to wildlife watching - it is simply an expected part of our experience. But one that we should not, and do not, accept.
We're galvanising communities and inspiring people to protect our beautiful coastlines.
Boys Republic
US Regulator (IRS) — Charity Number: 95-1647813
Boys Republic is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian school and treatment community for troubled youngsters. Since its founding in 1907, it has guided more than 30,000 at-risk teenage boys and girls toward productive, fulfilling lives.

Our Mission
Boys Republic seeks to give adolescent youth with behavioral, educational, and emotional difficulties an opportunity to achieve their maximum potential for responsible, self-directed life within the community.
Every attempt is made to involve family members in the rehabilitation process and to bring about the reunification of the family. We consider the development of academic, vocational and social skills essential in assisting the youth we serve to return to the community as useful, productive citizens.
Self Governance
"Youth thrive on responsibility.
With governance they will govern themselves and become responsible contributing members of society." Quoted by Max Scott (A previous Executive Director of Boys Republic)

GSRE’s aim is to be the prevention and not always the cure, through offering education on the lovely breed and how to look after these amazingly intelligent and energetic dogs. We not only look to re-home dogs but keep them in their original homes by offering training and behaviour advice.
Through our volunteers and website we want to inform people on all aspects of dog ownership before you decide to take the plunge especially as German Shepherd Dogs are a large working breed and are not suitable for everyone.

Delancey Street Foundation (DSF)
US Regulator (IRS) — Charity Number: 23-7102690
We are a community where people with nowhere to turn, turn their lives around.
Delancey Street is the country's leading residential self-help organization for former substance abusers, ex-convicts, homeless and others who have hit bottom. Started in 1971 with 4 people in a San Francisco apartment, Delancey Street has served many thousands of residents, in 5 locations throughout the United States. Residents at Delancey Street range from teenagers to senior citizens, and include men and women and all races and ethnicities. The average resident has been a hard-core drug and alcohol abuser, has been in prison, is unskilled, functionally illiterate, and has a personal history of violence and generations of poverty.
The minimum stay at Delancey Street is 2 years while the average resident remains for almost 4 years – drug, alcohol and crime-free. During their time at Delancey Street, residents receive a high school equivalency degree (GED) and are trained in 3 different marketable skills. Beyond academic and vocational training, residents learn important values, and the social and interpersonal skills that allow them to live successfully in the mainstream of society.
Any act of violence, or threat of violence, is cause for immediate removal from Delancey Street. Interestingly, former gang members, who have sworn to kill each other, live and work together peacefully starting in dorm-rooms and moving up into their own apartments. Residents learn to work together promoting non-violence through a principle called “each-one-teach-one” where each new resident is responsible for helping guide the next arrival.

Animazonia Wildlife Foundation (AWF)
US Regulator (IRS) — Charity Number: 91-2046660
Our vision is a world where big cats thrive in safe environments whether in the wild or in captivity. Big cats are a keystone species for the environments in which they live. As top predators, their role is critical in maintaining diversity and structure within natural environments.
Caring for these rescued animals takes a great deal of energy and resources. We have accepted the responsibility for their lifelong care, so we limit the number of cats we take in. We are aware of what we can do well and do not exceed that limit. Each animal has the best physical, emotional and mental care possible.
The big cats come to sanctuaries for a variety of reasons. Some have been confiscated by the authorities from roadside zoos or other inadequate environments or were animal actors that have outgrown their usefulness. Others need sanctuary because they have been forced from their homes in the wild due to shrinking wildlands and habitat encroachment.
The result is that these magnificent animals end up sick, neglected, abused or abandoned and only the lucky ones are rescued by sanctuaries like Animazonia.

Versus Arthritis
UK Regulator (CCEW) — Charity Number: 207711
There are over 10 million people living with arthritis. That’s one in six, with over half of those living in pain every single day. The impact is huge as the condition slowly intrudes on everyday life – affecting the ability to work, care for a family, to move free from pain and to live independently. Yet arthritis is often dismissed as an inevitable part of ageing or shrugged off as ‘just a bit of arthritis’. We don’t think that this is OK. Building on the legacies and expertise of both Arthritis Research UK and Arthritis Care, Versus Arthritis is here to change that.

TH Regulator (MOI) — Charity Number: T271/2545
The world’s animals are in need of help, due to deforestation, the illegal wildlife trade for exotic pets, the consumption of wildlife, and worldwide pollution. This all is caused by greed, corruption and lack of education.
The wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand has volunteer projects that are trying to make a difference and are in need of people like you to make this change a successful one!
We have wildlife volunteer projects located in South East Asia, Thailand and Laos, where volunteers are needed to help out at wildlife rescue centres, conservation projects and research facilities. Volunteering with animals in these parts of the world where the illegal wildlife trade is at it’s worst can make a huge difference for the animals under the care of the wildlife rescue projects, and have a direct impact on the conservation of the animals still in the wild due to education projects, assistance to law enforcement and conservation with rescue and release projects, showing to the local community that wildlife conservation and animal welfare do go hand-in-hand.
Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand needs your help! Connect with us and share our stories. If you are in Thailand find out how you can help. Come visit us and get involved.

GFW data is accessed daily by governments, companies, civil society organizations, journalists, and everyday people who care about their local forests.
Global Forest Watch (GFW) is an online platform that provides data and tools for monitoring forests. By harnessing cutting-edge technology, GFW allows anyone to access near real-time information about where and how forests are changing around the world.
Since its launch in 2014, over 1.5 million people have visited Global Forest Watch from every single country in the world.

Mission of WRI
WRI’s mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations.
Goals of WRI
We focus on seven urgent global challenges that must be addressed to reduce poverty, grow economies and protect natural systems:
-
Climate: Protect communities and natural ecosystems from damage caused by greenhouse gas emissions, and generate opportunities for people by catalyzing a global transition to a low-carbon economy.
-
Energy: Drive the scale-up of clean, affordable power systems throughout the world to deliver sustainable socio-economic development.
-
Food: Ensure the world’s food systems reduce their impact on the environment, drive economic opportunity, and sustainably feed 9.6 billion people by 2050.
-
Forests: Alleviate poverty, enhance food security, conserve biodiversity, and mitigate climate change by reducing forest loss and restoring productivity to degraded, deforested lands.
-
Water: Achieve a water-secure future by mapping, measuring, and mitigating global water risks.
-
Sustainable Cities: Improve quality of life in cities by developing and scaling environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable urban and transport solutions.
-
The Ocean: We are charting the path for a New Ocean Economy that is good for jobs, economic growth and human health -- while protecting and restoring the ocean.

Donations Are Needed
Promoting awareness is and always will be an ongoing process, it’s a
process that many voluntary sector organisations find daunting and struggle
with, yet they know it’s an absolute must if their message
is to be heard.
By donating to Charity Needs you don’t just help our foundation to
continue the work we do to promote the voluntary sector worldwide, your
support boosts financial support throughout the sector by the awareness that
is gained.
Being able to create a dedicated portal so that the public can easily find,
choose and support a campaign that suits them, is ideal for both the public
and the voluntary sector, but building an IT infrastructure that can collect
analytical data for the sector costs.
Charity Needs’ objective is to see that the voluntary sector are
catered for and can get their messages out into the media wild as easily as
pressing a publish button.
To help sustain this Charity Needs has begun to throw little awareness
parties that require only one element… for you to come out and have
some fun at them. By doing so you will have done a great amount of good
without paying any attention to anything else but the fun time you would be
having. See charityneeds.com/flow
for more details.
Very large donations will also go towards our emergency disaster fund, so
that we can provide help and support on the ground in those unforeseen times
when human suffering is evident and in need of relief.
In those times voluntary support is vital, and if you can not donate money,
but would like to help, please register as a
volunteer through our form and we will contact you should the need
arise.
Thanks you.

prefer to donate by volunteering time.
If you are one of those who like to be hands on and see your
contributory efforts transform in front of your eyes, then this is
the type of donation for you and we welcome it with joy.
Most voluntary sector organisations can't get their hands on enough
volunteers to carry out the tasks that need to be performed, so all
of us in the sector would welcome your input.
Simply fill in the form on this page and give as much detail as you
can.
In the event of a call up, we will try to give you a task that fits
the abilities that you list, and if we can not do that, we'll find a
task for you close to it.
If that is still not possible, then it's all hands on deck no matter
what your skill-set.
Charity Needs will notify you via email of causes and campaigns that
require voluntary input of the kind you have chosen to give.
